Wow, I’ve been remiss in posting lately. I’m a bit worn out this week. I had my Strukturdynamik exam on Saturday, took a trip to Nürnberg on Sunday, and just got to take a trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber yesterday. I’ll hopefully be posting pictures of those soon, but in the meantime, here’s a few videos that I enjoyed this week.
A couple of Improv Everywhere performances that brought me happiness:
Redheads protesting the Wendy’s Mascot:

And welcoming total strangers home at the airport:

Hey, I wouldn’t mind that kind of greeting next August when I come home! Are you listening, Improv Everywhere? 😀
And, with the approach of Christmas, I give you Oscar the adorable blind cat helping his owners decorate. Or un-decorate. Still adorable.
The engineer in me still thinks some duct tape could repair the broken Christmas tree stand. Or maybe suspend the Christmas tree from an eye hook screwed into the ceiling so that the tree could be kept out of reach of the cats. But watching Oscar climb into that tree is too adorable; I wouldn’t have the heart to put it out of his reach!
To be honest, I was worried I wasn’t going to have anything to post today. I’ve been studying a lot for the upcoming Strukturdynamik midterm (since the German semesters run from October to March and April to August). I also have a particularly busy study-break day today, with an early appointment at the alien’s office to turn in a bit more visa paperwork, a trip to Frankfurt to go to a Messe (which is like a fair) on the subject of machining for a class, and then a trip in the other direction to Heidelberg to visit the Weihnachtsmarkt there. Should be fun, but I’ll be zonked tonight.
But thanks to Improv Everywhere and the email my Youtube subscription to them sent me this morning, I have this video to show. It’s a song about how no one is too old to sit on Santa’s lap at the mall.
Doesn’t watching this sort of video make you want to go out to your nearest mall and burst into song?
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (yesterday! oops!)
One thing I am thankful for is laughter. If I’m in a bad mood or if I’m homesick, finding something to laugh about often puts me back in a more positive mindset. If you are sad that the last of the 60-inch TVs at the Black Friday sale was gone before you even got to the store and need something to laugh about, here’s some Tim Hawkins hilarity for you. (Tim Hawkins is a Christian comedian, for those who don’t know. I credit my friend Lyndee for getting me to finally watch him on Youtube and my mom for encouraging me to watch even more.) 🙂
Tim Hawkins partying in the USA.
Even Tim Hawkins needs to laugh at himself sometimes. Oops.
And a bonus! I am also thankful for cute fuzzy puppies. Awwww.
Well, I hope you enjoyed your laughter for the day. I’ll be off at the Frankfurter Weihnachtsmarkt later today, so be sure to tune in over the next few days for pictures!
I’m kind of scatterbrained today, since I’m doing last-minute packing for the Campus für Christus retreat I’m leaving on later today. But I found a couple funny videos on Youtube that I can share. They are both really random, but being scatterbrained right now, I’m posting them anyway. 🙂
The first is a test of an Emergency Broadcast System. The song gets a little tiring after a while, but it’s fun for the first minute or two. If you find the visuals annoying or offensive, I suggest you start this video to get the music going and immediately scroll down and start watching the video of a pretty screensaver below it instead.
The screen saver is included on all new Macs and is called Flurry, by the way.
I’m including this next one out of geekiness. It’s a stop-motion video someone made of melty beads. Of Mario. Running around and beating Mario-game baddies in his/her house. Pretty amazing, and I’m sure it was a LOT of work!
Enjoy the videos and enjoy your weekend!
I was recently writing an email to some family members who were under a lot of stress. I wanted to help, but I’m kind of far away at the moment, so I gave them what I sometimes need to improve my mood: distraction.
Yep, distraction. If I’m in a funk, homesickness or otherwise, I’ll go write out my frustrations for a while, but after a few minutes, I just find myself writing the same things over and over. I miss my family. I miss my friends. I miss home.
That’s when I know to do something completely different. Get out of my apartment and go for a walk, or If the weather is bad or if it is late in the day, I read one of my favorite blogs or go searching for random stuff on Youtube. Sounds weird, but it helps.
So when I emailed these family members distractions, I sent them a ready-made Youtube lineup. Need a distraction yourself? Here are the videos I sent:
Halloween was recently. I wish I could have seen this middle school science class in person!
What’s a Youtube party without the Old Spice Man?
…and Grover as Old Spice Man? Awww.
Two words: Extreme. Ironing.
